You can dial 110 and talk to a police officer in English. So please answer his/her questions cool and calm.

  1. Is it an incident or an accident?・・robbery, traffic accident or fight etc.
  2. Where did it happen?・・Address, landmark buildings, intersection,distance etc.
  3. When did it happen?・・Rough idea of the time such as "five minutes ago".
  4. Can you describe the suspect?・・Sex, number of suspects, facial feature/appearance, dress,escape measures and direction.
  5. What is the present situation?・・Detail of the accident/incident, damages, injured or not etc.
  6. May I have your name, address and phone number, please?
Police officers are commanding the police station or patrol cars by radio to handle it while questioning you. So please answer his/her questions cool and calm.
Even a non-Japanese speaker can talk to the officer in English through an interpreter.

What should I do when I lose my belongings?
A1.
Report the lost item(s) of property to a police station,Koban or Residential police box immediately.

If you lost your belongings at a train station,department store,etc, refer to the facility manager.

If you lost your passport or resident card,you might be requested to submit the certificate which proved that you reported to the police station in the process of reissue. Please refer to the police station to which you reported about the issue of the certificate.(You need to show your ID in principle when you apply for the certificate)

What should I do when I find lost property that someone has lost?
A2.
Promptly return it to the person who lost it or report it to any police station,koban or residential police box.
If you fail to report the found property to the police within 7 days, you will not be entitled to receive a reward when the owner is found.

When the property is found at a particular place such as a train station or a department store,report the found property to the facility staff or employees.

However,if you fail to report the found property to facility staff within 24 hours,you will not be entitled to receive a reward when the owner is found.
